An aside: I was summoned to jury duty today. Lots of whining was heard long about 10 a.m. since we'd been there since 8 and not much was happening. But aren't there many countries in our world today who are dying for their right to have our system of justice?! To say nothing of our very own insurgents in 1775!? I know this sounds cheesy and I know our system is far from just--especially if you aren't white (The New Jim Crow will horrify you) but come on, isn't this not only our civic duty but a real honor?!

I've never been called for jury duty.... but I've always wanted to be called. I think it would be really interesting to see how it all works from the inside.
